Medicare’s guidelines regarding the provision and approval of ambulance services are based on criteria relating to documentation and medical necessity. Data from review contractors and processes, such as the Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) program and Supplemental Medical Review Contractor (SMRC), indicate widespread errors relating to documenting and coding of ambulance care.

During this webcast, we’ll review First Coast local coverage determination (LCD) that addresses these services and provides guidance to assist ambulance providers with proper documentation and coding.

Topics to be covered include guidelines associated with:

• Ground mileage

• First Coast’s local coverage determination for non-emergency transport

• Signature requirements

• Proactive steps to prepare for targeted probe and educate (TPE)

• COVID impacts on ambulance services
